CCJ Summer School at Ammerdown Conference Centre
‘Rebuilding the Temple’
The magnificent building in Jerusalem, destroyed by the Romans in 70 CE, was largely the result of work by Herod the Great, a complex individual, known as much for his building projects as for infanticide.  Centuries earlier, Nehemiah had also restored the Temple as the people ‘returned’ from exile.
This programme will explore what we know of the characters of both men, the political and religious climates in which they operated and the forces and beliefs which drove them.  It will also look at the place of the Temple in the spiritual life of the people and discuss Christian approaches to ‘spiritual rebuilding’.  Bringing this into the context of present concerns, the seminar will further consider anxieties raised by groups who talk about rebuilding it physically today. Vegetarian food and fish will be served during the course.
Bookings and further information available via the Ammerdown Centre, Ammerdown Park, Radstock BA3 5SW.
