‘Proud of CCJ’ says Tony Blair!
The pioneering role of CCJ in ‘advancing inter faith relations and dialogue since 1942 ‘was given special mention by Tony Blair  in the first of a series of lectures on faith and globalisation at Westminster cathedral during April.
Blair called ‘for religious faith to be rescued from extremism and put at the centre of solving the world's problems’ He argued thatin an increasingly globalised world, the role of faiths and interfaith organisations   will be ‘critical ’ in achieving the Millennium Development goals of eradicating world hunger and poverty in the next 50 years.

Festivals and Feasts

Shavuot - The Jewish ‘summer ‘festival of Shavuot (the feast of weeks) begins on June 9th  this year. Shavuot takes place seven weeks after the festival of Passover. This also marks in biblical times the start of the wheat harvest and end of the barley harvest. The festival commemorates the time when Moses received the Torah (first five books of the bible) on Mount Sinai.
Today prayers are said in order to thank God for the Torah. Some people mark the first night by indulging in all night study.
On the second night the book of Ruth is explored. This is because the action of the story takes place during this harvest period and also the central heroine, as a convert receives the Torah wholeheartedly.
As it is summer, flowers are strewn around the home and Synagogue. Dairy delicacies are also eaten, cheesecake being a popular favourite.
