“And Ruth said: ‘Entreat me not to leave thee, and to return from following after thee; for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge; thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God.’” [Ruth 1:16]
At CCJ, we are extremely concerned by the callous treatment of the ‘children of Windrush’. The Windrush generation were invited to come to Britain to rebuild the country after the war. Now their children, who have lived and worked in the UK for most of their lives, are being threatened with deportation. Some families have been separated.
We urge compassion in the treatment of the children of the Windrush generation, and a full amnesty for those without complete paperwork. As Christians and Jews, we believe in the sanctity of hospitality, kindness to strangers, and family life, and these beliefs preclude us from silence on this issue.
