The Council of Christians and Jews is appalled by the abhorrent attack on the Hyper Cacher supermarket in Paris on Friday. This was deliberate murder and terrorisation of innocent people, including children, simply on the grounds that they were Jewish. While the implications of this atrocity differ from those of the massacre at the Charlie Hebdo offices, both acts of terrorism underline the fragility of our societies. We offer our prayers for the friends and families of the victims, and for those traumatised by the events. As Christians and Jews together we continue to underline the need for the acknowledgement of the Divine in each individual, and to strive for the elimination of Antisemitism, intolerance and hatred wherever they may be found.
