Welcome to our Bexhill/Hastings branch of CCJ.

Our members are from the surrounding area of Hastings, including St Leonards, Bexhill and Eastbourne. The Jewish communities here are small but members are very supportive and keen to keep our branch alive. We have four or five events each year, mostly open to non members, in order to reach out to the wider community and we aim to hold events in a variety of places.

The Holocaust Memorial service held in St Mary in the Castle in Hastings each year is important and always very well attended. We are fortunate to get excellent support from Hastings council, who provide tickets, programmes and the lovely venue. Opera South East sings for us and a variety of local people, including schools and young people, have taken part.

Recently a visit to a Shabbat service at the liberal synagogue in Brighton was organised as a joint venture with the Hastings Interfaith group. The rabbi and community made us very welcome and we hope to repeat this.

Members have visited local schools to assist and speak with the children during interfaith weeks and religious education programmes.
