The Council of Christians and Jews is Britain's oldest national inter-faith organisation. It was established in 1942 to (1) promote religious and cultural understanding between Christians and Jews (2), to work for the elimination of religious and racial prejudice, hatred and discrimination, particularly antisemitism and (3), to promote religious and racial harmony on the basis of ethical and social teachings common to Christianity and Judaism.

The Council of Christians and Jews is utterly and completely opposed to all forms of antisemitism. CCJ acknowledges that over the centuries the Christian Church has at times been responsible for promoting negative perceptions of Jews and Judaism (anti-Judaism), even perpetuating acts of violence. Sadly these negative perceptions persist in parts of the Christian Church today.

Christianity is based on an understanding of the loving engagement of God with humanity through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus. It is the responsibility of Christians to witness in their lives to the good news of this mission of God in the ways that Jesus did - by lives of love in action. Christian members of CCJ will therefore want to focus on serving others and witnessing to their faith through deeds and dialogue.

Zionism is often misrepresented by those who oppose it. People have a right to criticise policies of the Israeli government, or actions of its citizens. Such criticism does not necessarily constitute anti-Zionism. CCJ would define as anti-Zionist those who would deny the Jewish people a legitimate homeland in Israel, and those who would deny the right of Israel to exist.
