CCJ Hillingdon's Response to the Methodist Church Israel-Palestine Resolution and Upcoming Tuesday 27 July 2010 Talk on the Issue ›

One of the issues that arose during CCJ Hillingdon's June event (Rabbi Danny Rich on 'Jesus the Jew' at Ruislip Methodist Church) was a resolution passed by the Methodists at their recent Annual Conference to accept a report that called for, among other things, a boycott of goods made in Israeli Settlements in the Palestinian territories. CCJ Central Office recently published a statement on this issue: download it here.

We at Hillingdon CCJ completely support the national CCJ view and, although not ignoring or approving of the proposed boycott, we will continue to retain our good relations with members of the Methodist Church. In this connection we are, therefore, pleased to publicise a local initiative whereby there will be a meeting in the form of a dialogue between Jews and Methodists on the Israel/Palestine situation at The Methodist Church, Oaklands Gate, Northwood, HA6 3AA at 8.00pm on Tuesday 27 July 2010. The discussion will be led by Rev. Sam McBratney and Rabbi Aaron Goldstein. Everyone is most welcome to attend this meeting. Please feel free to download further details here.

Upcoming: August Events at CCJ Hillingdon ›

CCJ Hillingdon reports enjoying stimulating and demanding events this summer. The Annual CCJ Coach Trip on Monday August 23rd will be gentler, a visit to the new Jewish Museum in Camden Town, we're told that it's a superb experience. We hope it's a fine day so that we can enjoy a stroll to Camden Lock market before returning to Ruislip. Camden Market has become the fourth most popular attraction in London, well worth a visit for its vibrant mix of crafts, entertainment, food and music.

Camden Lock

You can download the booking form for this event here. We need to know numbers a couple of weeks in advance so that we choose the right coach.

Here's the link to the Museum's website, to give you an idea of what we will find there.

Contact CCJ (Central Office is able to put you in touch with CCJ Hillingdon) if you need a lift to or from the meeting place (at the car park opposite St Martins Church, near the Northwood end of Ruislip High Street) or if you're willing to give one, especially if you pass through Pinner or Ealing. We're delighted that people come from far afield, and would like to make it as easy as possible for them.

The seminar brought together bankers, investment fund managers and lawyers from across the City to discuss challenges and questions about ethics and trading in global markets. Discussions focused on how to make global capitalism more ethical in today's market and whether faith plays a part. To find out more about the proceedings of the seminar, download the report here.

Upcoming Event: CCJ Hillingdon Tours St. Giles' Church  ›

Our next event will be at St. Giles' Church Hall, Ickenham, where a member of the community will kindly provide a short guided tour of the church itself for early comers at 7.30 p.m on July 13th. The churchyard with its garden is a beautiful spot on a fine midsummer evening.

Please bring your questions for the Question Time Panel, and if you're shy to stand up and ask about the awkward issues there will be notepads and pencils so that I can ask on your behalf anonymously.

Let us know if you need a lift, or if you're willing to give one, especially if you pass through Pinner or Ealing.
