CCJ South East London
The South East London branch welcomes members and non-members south of the Thames, east of Dulwich, north of Bromley & Croydon and west of the English Channel.
We meet four times a year, with St Edmunds in Beckenham Village as our main host, while the two Synagogues in south east London also host meetings. Typically, the October and March meetings are concerned with a lively topic of interest to all communities; the April event is more of a cultural occasion; while the June/July event is our annual social event. We try to encourage different viewpoints and experiences, often by having two speakers on the same topic or using a panel.
We experiment with different formats – in 2012 we have held the first speaker meeting by Skype, with our guest speaker from the Israel Museum live from Jerusalem.
Meetings usually take place on Tuesday evenings, starting with refreshments from around 7:40 pm; the formal part of the meeting starts at 8:00 pm; the speaker(s) may speak for up to 30 minutes; followed by a very lively debate. The formal meeting finishes shortly after 9:00 pm, and informal conversation continues afterwards.
Please do come with an open mind, and see for yourself.
