Holocaust Memorial Day

Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) is commemorated on 27th January each year throughout the world. The 27th of January was chosen as it is the anniversary of the day in 1945 on which the Soviet Army liberated the largest Nazi concentration camp - Auschwitz-Birkenau.

The Council of Christians and Jews works with Churches Together in Britain and Ireland to produce a number of resources for Christian clergy to use with their congregations to commemorate the event. Each year HMD has a theme - the theme for 2012 is 'Speak Up, Speak Out'.

What resources are available for use?

Our 'Speak Up, Speak Out' resources pack is available for use in Christian services and gatherings. The soundscapes below are also available for use alongside readings, prayers and poems in acts of commemoration.

Can I use CCJ's resources to remember the victims of the Holocaust at other times of year?

At the Council of Christians and Jews we encourage people to keep the Holocaust in their thoughts, so that together we can continue to work against antisemitism and victimisation. Please feel free to use our resources and those of the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust throughout the year.
