Christians and Jews mark CCJ's 70th Anniversary
The Bishop of Manchester, the Archbishop of Melbourne and leading figures of the Jewish community planted a cedar tree in the front garden of the Bishop of Manchester’s home to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Council of Christians and Jews by Chief Rabbi Hertz and Archbishop William Temple in 1942.
The tree will grow in the grounds of Bishopscourt where, in the former house, Temple, as Bishop of Manchester, lived.
The Rt Revd Nigel McCulloch, the current Bishop of Manchester, who lead the planting of the tree, is also the Chairman of the Council of Christians and Jews – and was born in 1942, the same year that Council of Christians and Jews was founded.
