CCJ opposes UK boycott of Israeli settlement products

The Council of Christians and Jews is urging MPs not to support a ban on the import of Israeli settlement products.

The call comes as Christian Aid and Quakers in Britain lobby the UK government to impose a ban which they say would promote the prospects of peace between Palestinians and Israelis.

The CCJ’s CEO, Rev’d David Gifford, said: "The drive of many Christian bodies to press for boycotts is understandable and probably born out of its frustration with the challenges that the Israeli settlements present.

“The CCJ questions whether a boycott will achieve much more than for the few who support it to feel better. The Council of Christians and Jews still opposes boycotts and considers continued diplomatic engagement and negotiation as the better response."
